What is it about giants? People ask me this question often, especially those who live with dogs less than 90 pounds, and it's surprisingly hard for me to answer.
They move differently. The gracefully lumber.
They have very little sense of urgency, unless they hear some sort of snack packaging rustling in the kitchen.
They don't seem concerned about what anyone thinks of them. Maybe that's it. In that manner they are a bit like gigantic cats.
Or maybe it's that in nearly every shoot I have with a giant, there is slobber.
Whatever it is, it doesn't matter. I feel at ease with giants. I dig the people who are laid back about sharing their sofas and mopping up slobber.
So maybe it is about the slobber.
I'm Shannon, and I love and am loved by four Great Danes, four cats, and one horse (four Danes, one cat, and one horse are no longer walking this earth). Here I'll share stories of my adventures in grief photography for companion animals, my own grief journey, and thoughts on caregiving.
